Some Questions...
What's the difference between Home Staging and Interior Decorating?
These services sound similar, however, they are polar opposites.
Home Staging is appealing to the masses by changing your Home into a House.
Interior Decorating is your personal taste suited to your lifestyle by changing your House into a Home.
You already know what needs doing in your house.
True, in a way. But sometimes its hard to 'see the wood for the trees' and an independent, experienced eye can spot things that you might miss. Also, you might need some help deciding which improvements are going to actually add value to your property.
Or your viewers would tell you on the way round your house?
No. Perhaps it’s a ‘politeness’ thing! A stranger in your home is much more likely to say ‘Not quite for me’ rather than ‘It looks like its falling down!’
You might think that your estate agent would point things out to you, right?
Wrong! Your estate agent works on commission, he wants to get your house on his books. He won’t jeopardise that by ‘being rude’ about your home.
But the estate agent valued my house, it must be the right price.
Again, no. When you first put your house on the market, you probably got two or three agents round, they all gave you prices. Chances are the valuations varied, sometimes widely. Which one did you go with? Isn’t it a great feeling to know your house is worth £20,000 more than the one down the street? The fact is it probably isn’t. Remember the agent wants to get you on his books. Once your there you’re unlikely to move, and he can drop your sale price after a couple of months. A couple of precious months if you’re in a hurry to move.
Are you anti estate agents?
No, not at all. They do a great job most of the time. But it doesn't hurt to keep them on their toes!
